mommy is a rainbow

Mommy Is a Rainbow is a groundbreaking children's  picture book about a mother's busy and beautiful brain. Mommy is one of 5.7 million Americans who live with bipolar disorder,  a  mental difference  in which moods swing from high to low.

To explain these mood swings to her daughter, Mommy describes herself as a rainbow. turning moods like joy and sorrow into colors. As Mommy paints the world in living color, her daughter learns that Mommy is a wonderfully different artist.  Mommy Is a Rainbow is more than a book for children, parents, and guardians. Mommy's voice is that of all those who live with bipolar disorder sharing their colorful world with others.

A UNIQUE VOICE

Mommy Is a Rainbow gives families, especially those navigating bipolar disorder, a lyrical, emotionally safe, and culturally resonant way to talk about mental health. The book transforms complex emotional shifts into shared understanding, making it easier for parents to be seen, children to feel secure, and communities to talk openly about healing- without stigma, shame or jargon.

Meet the Author

Reverend Arlette E. Jackson is an ordained minister, certified chaplain, author, and mental health advocate whose work lives at the intersection of faith, healing, and community care. With decades of ministry experience and a deep commitment to mental health education, she is the author of Mommy is a Rainbow, a groundbreaking children’s book that helps families lovingly explain bipolar disorder. Drawing upon ministry experience and lived experience with mental difference, she writes with both professional expertise and personal insight. God revealed Mommy is a Rainbow to Arlette, then 27,  during an episode in which she wondered how she would explain bipolar disorder to a child. She cherishes ministry to those who also live with mental difference. The book reflects her calling: to bring clarity, compassion, and care into places where silence has lived too long.
